Striking Synchronization: "Flying saw" By means of the "flying saw" principle it is possible to synchronize a slave axis with a master axis in motion. Applications that include flying saw functionality are most common in wood, sheet metal and paper machining. Yet meanwhile the flying saw is not only used for cutting or sawing processes but also to imprint, label or inspect workpieces. What happens in a flying saw arrangement is that the speed of the slave axis is adjusted to the speed of the master axis, allowing to machine a workpiece while it is continuously moved forward. After the processing the slave axis returns to its initial position to await the next workpiece. |
